Mumbai is a huge city and can be daunting for first timers. Deciding where to stay is one of the first decisions you need to make. Hotels are expensive and generally in the CBD (Central Business District). If you are looking for better value and want to be closer to the action, then I would recommend renting an apartment.
Apartments can be found for around the same price as a hotel room, but you get a lot more space. They are also usually in a better location, close to all the sights and sounds of the city. Another bonus is that you can cook your own meals, which can save you a lot of money.
There are a lot of apartment rental companies in Mumbai, so do your research and find one that suits your needs. I have had a great experience using Airbnb and would recommend it to anyone.
